Rise Networks has partnered with the Independent National Electoral Commission, Meta, Google, Microsoft, and other institutions to launch the #AI4Elections Hackathon. Vanguard reports that the initiative aims to build artificial intelligence tools to enhance the credibility of Nigeria’s upcoming 2027 general elections.
The competition is open to Nigerians aged 18 and older, including developers, researchers, and data scientists. According to the organisers, contestants must build functional software prototypes rather than submitting simple ideas or mock-ups. The project focuses on areas like information verification, data analytics, civic technology, and cybersecurity.
Speaking in Abuja, Rise Networks founder Dr Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji explained that the program seeks to encourage safe technological innovations while safeguarding voters' rights. Applications for the national hackathon close on November 12, 2026, while the grand finale will take place in Lagos on December 16.
