Ondo Assembly Approves Bill for State Police Creation

The Ondo State House of Assembly has approved the proposed constitutional amendment bill aimed at creating state police forces. According to Punch, lawmakers supported the measure during Monday's plenary session after the legislation successfully cleared its second and third readings with unanimous backing from members in attendance.

Punch reported that the majority leader, Olatunji Oshati, introduced the motion, which was seconded by Allen Oluwatoyin. Oshati noted that lawmakers thoroughly examined the bill, expressing confidence that local policing would effectively tackle the persistent security problems currently affecting communities across the nation.

Speaker Olamide Oladiji described the legislation as long overdue, emphasizing that local security forces would enhance intelligence collection and quicken emergency responses. Consequently, the assembly instructed the Clerk, Benjamin Jaiyeola, to forward the passed document along with their recommendations directly to the National Assembly.
