Atiku Abubakar has attacked the Federal Government's 30-day petrol discount, accusing President Tinubu of using NNPC Limited as a "campaign cashier." His statement was released on Saturday, 10 October by Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council.

According to Legit.ng, the discount is ₦66 per litre at NNPC stations for 30 days, accessed through an app. NNPC Retail operates just over 900 filling stations, and Atiku noted Nigeria's population is roughly 242 million: "Tinubu announces relief for the whole country, then delivers it through a fraction of its filling stations."

Atiku also questioned whether NNPC's board approved the discount before the Presidency announced it, citing the Petroleum Industry Act, which made NNPC a commercial company. He accused the government of borrowing his idea of targeted relief and delivering a limited version: "You borrowed the recipe for feeding a nation and returned with a tasting spoon."

Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele has said the arrangement is a cost-price offer, not a subsidy. The NDC also condemned the discount in a statement dated 8 October.
