Thierry Henry has clarified his actions during the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London after facing online criticism, according to Punch. The former French forward co-hosted the event with presenter Kate Scott, where his remarks to Barcelona star Lamine Yamal sparked intense debate among viewers.

The criticism began when Henry asked Yamal if the Kopa Trophy was the award he genuinely desired. Some online users claimed the question embarrassed the young Spaniard who missed out on the main Ballon d'Or prize, while others considered the exchange to be innocent humor between football personalities.

In an Instagram video, Henry denied attempting to diminish Yamal's achievement or test his ego. According to Punch, Henry explained that he was merely making light-hearted banter, adding that he greatly admires the Barcelona winger and considers him a player he would gladly pay to watch.
