The Lagos State House of Assembly has endorsed the proposed establishment of state police, according to Punch. However, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa stressed that the ongoing constitutional amendment must grant states substantial control over their internal security and clearly state the operational limits between federal and state forces.

Lawmakers debated the sixth alteration bill transmitted by the National Assembly, which has reportedly gained backing from nearly 25 states. Obasa cautioned that leaving excessive influence in federal hands could defeat the primary goal of the reform, urging legislators nationwide to balance policing authority appropriately before finalizing the law.

The Speaker also advocated for independent parliamentary security to shield lawmakers from executive overreach. He commended President Bola Tinubu and parliamentary leaders for advancing the process, noting that protecting legislative complexes from past issues like executive-induced lockouts or demolitions remains vital for safeguarding the nation's democratic structures.
