Fleetwood Town created a massive shock in the English League Cup fourth round by knocking out Premier League side Arsenal on penalties. The match ended 1-1 after regular time before the lower-league side secured a 5-3 victory in the shoot-out, according to Vanguard.
Aaron Loupalo-Bi scored early to put Fleetwood ahead before Viktor Gyokeres equalised for Arsenal in the second half. Arsenal player Bruno Guimaraes missed his spot-kick, allowing Conor Haughey to strike the winning penalty for the fourth-tier team at Highbury Stadium.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta made nine changes to his starting lineup for the encounter. Youngster Max Dowman received a red card late in the match, while excited Fleetwood supporters rushed onto the pitch after the final whistle to celebrate the historic victory.
