Undergraduate students in public tertiary institutions across Nigeria can now submit applications for the 2026 National University Scholarship Award. According to a report by Punch, the annual funding scheme is jointly organised by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited.
Successful applicants will be granted yearly financial assistance to support their studies until graduation. The organizers stated on the application portal that the scholarship program aims to encourage academic excellence while boosting technical capabilities among youth in the country. Female students are strongly urged to submit applications.
To qualify, candidates must be Nigerian citizens in their second year of full-time study at a public university approved by the National Universities Commission. Applicants must maintain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.5 on a five-point scale or an equivalent grade. Candidates currently benefiting from any other corporate scholarship provided by local or international oil and gas operators are ineligible.
Punch monitored Shell's announcement of the opportunity in a video posted to its official X social media account, which guided interested candidates to submit documents online through the Scholastica portal. The final date for submission of applications for the scholarship is November 30, 2026.
Required application materials include a recent passport photo not exceeding 200 kilobytes, university or JAMB admission letters, UTME results, O'Level certificates, an official state of origin identification letter, 100-level academic transcripts, and a completed official declaration form.
