Customs Releases 98 Stranded Power Grid Containers to Federal Government
The Federal Government has recovered 98 containers of electricity transmission equipment that had been stuck at Lagos ports for up to 20 years, Daily Post reports.

The Federal Government has commenced payment of ₦50,000 monthly to vulnerable Nigerians under its new National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI).
The programme was announced on Friday, October 30, 2026, by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, as a Presidential initiative to cushion the rising cost of living.
NERSI is a shock-responsive cash transfer programme designed to provide immediate financial relief to millions of poor and vulnerable households struggling with rising food prices and the cost of essential goods.
"Under this intervention, eligible beneficiaries will receive ₦50,000 monthly, providing direct assistance to help meet essential needs and ease the burden of living costs," Doro said.
The Minister said the amount will be reviewed periodically in response to changes in the cost of living, and beneficiaries will be notified directly before any adjustment.
The intervention complements existing Federal Government social protection programmes under President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.
Beneficiaries are not chosen by application. They are selected from the National Social Register and verified national identity records (NIN-linked records). The programme targets poor and vulnerable households. It is being implemented in phases, so selected beneficiaries will receive notifications at different times.
If you check your status and see "NOT SELECTED", it does not mean permanent exclusion — it means you are not in the current batch. The government advises you to wait for the next batch.
The Ministry is working with licensed digital financial service providers to ensure secure, prompt and transparent payment. Approved providers include ALAT by Wema Bank (*945*23#), MoMo PSB (*671*0#), NairaGram (*726*00#), OPay (*955*20#), Moniepoint (*557*327#), and Xpress Payments.
The Federal Government has stressed that NERSI is FREE. There is no application fee, no registration fee, and no agents. Do NOT pay anyone to be selected or to release your money. Do NOT share your PIN or BVN with anyone. No one can add you to the list — if you are selected, your provider will send you an SMS.
If you are unsure about any message, or anyone asks you for money, call the official NERSI helpline: 0700-022-2222. For official updates, visit: www.fmhapr.gov.ng/nersi/
