The FCT Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress ordered an indefinite strike in the capital from Wednesday, 7 October, after a seven-day ultimatum to the FCT Administration expired. The dispute concerns welfare issues for teachers. The NLC rejected the administration's response as "ambiguous, dismissive and totally unacceptable."

Key demands include removing the "vacancy clause" from teacher promotions, reversing redeployment and demotion letters, and dissolving and reinstating management at the FCT SEB and UBEB.

In a separate case, the Federal Government released eight months of arrears to members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), less than 48 hours after the union issued a 14-day ultimatum. SSANU President Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim said members would soon receive payment alerts, though some demands remain unresolved.

Earlier in the week, NLC President Joe Ajaero accused the Tinubu administration of being disconnected from organised labour, saying the NLC wrote to the President between May and December 2025 without a response.
