INEC Chairman Prof Joash Amupitan has confirmed that the National Register of Voters has passed 103 million. He announced it on Monday at a workshop for editors in Abuja organised with the Nigerian Guild of Editors.

The three-phase Continuous Voter Registration produced 10,772,421 new registrations, subject to biometric verification. Nationwide collection of Permanent Voters' Cards starts on Friday, 9 October 2026, and INEC has acquired 57,000 new BVAS devices for the 2027 elections.

Separately, the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered INEC to recognise Dr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim as the Accord Party's presidential candidate. Justice Mohammed Umar found he was lawfully nominated at the party's 30 May primary and rejected the party's claim that the primary had been cancelled.

President Tinubu was due back in Abuja on Monday evening after six days in Lagos, following an extended stay in London and Paris. He addressed the nation on 1 October for Independence Day, focusing on reforms and the cost of living.
