The Super Eagles rescued a 3-3 draw against Russia in an international friendly in Nizhny Novgorod. Kelechi Iheanacho opened the scoring in the 11th minute, but Russia scored twice before half-time and a third nine minutes after the restart to lead 3-1.

Nigeria hit back. Peter Edokpolor made it 3-2 in the second half, and Akor Adams struck an injury-time equaliser in the 94th minute.

Coach Eric Chelle praised his players' determination, saying that changing his strikers' setup in the second half let Nigeria find space on the counter-attack. He called the game "a great test of character."

The Eagles went into camp with 19 players, with captain Wilfred Ndidi and Victor Akpe out through injury, and several players denied permission by their clubs to travel. The result gives some lift after the 3-0 defeat in Guinea-Bissau and ahead of November's AFCON qualifiers against Tanzania.
