Cristiano Ronaldo has been provisionally suspended by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) after he left the national team camp during the Nations League break. The FPF's Non-Professional Section opened disciplinary proceedings on 9 October.

Ronaldo, 41, said coach Jorge Jesus told him he would be a substitute against Norway but he did not play. He left camp before the Denmark game after telling the federation. The length of the suspension is unspecified, though unnamed reports say regulations allow one to six months for abandoning national team activity.

In his response, Ronaldo said: "I owe my national team teammates an apology for leaving the training camp," and "The responsibility is exclusively mine." He added: "I am not just any player; I am the captain of the team, and that constitutes an aggravating factor." He also said Jesus "broke his word."

Ronaldo returned to Al Nassr and scored in a 3-0 win over Diriyah on Friday. Earlier in the week, Jesus had accepted a federation mediation proposal to meet him, and Portugal beat Denmark 4-2 without him. Portugal's next Nations League games are against Denmark and Wales next month.
