Educated Elite Behind Nigeria's Grand Corruption, Says Governor Caleb Mutfwang
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has blamed educated citizens for orchestrating grand corruption, financial crimes, and institutional decay across Nigeria.

President Bola Tinubu has commended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for accepting reconciliation measures and maintaining stability during political unrest in the state. Speaking on Saturday during a campaign gathering for the Rainbow Coalition at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, the president assured the governor that his decision to choose peace would bring no regrets, according to Punch.
During his address, Tinubu expressed gratitude to Fubara for showing maturity and listening to elders when the presidency stepped in to resolve disputes. The president characterized the friction as an internal family disagreement and commended the governor as a committed democrat who respected the settlement process.
At the same event, Tinubu praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing him as a critical development ally of the current administration. He described the former Rivers governor as an industrious and visionary public servant whose dedication has advanced infrastructure across the country.
The political tension between Fubara and Wike first flared up in October 2023, shortly after Fubara took over the governorship. Punch reported that the struggle, which revolved around influence over local political machinery and the state legislature, triggered impeachment moves against the governor, fragmented lawmakers, and led to repeated courtroom battles.
The protracted standoff prompted Tinubu to impose a state of emergency in Rivers on March 18, 2025, temporarily sidelining Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and legislative members. The federal authorities lifted emergency rule in September 2025, allowing the officials to resume their functions before both political camps achieved reconciliation in 2026.
