The National Directorate of Employment has introduced a five-year strategic roadmap to expand job opportunities across the country. According to Vanguard, the initiative focuses on upgrading and retooling 87 vocational training hubs nationwide, many of which currently require extensive rehabilitation and modern machinery to meet contemporary industrial standards.
Speaking during the launch in Abuja, the agency's Director-General, Silas Agara, explained that the policy will guide operations from 2027 to 2031. He stated that the scheme aims to connect skill acquisition with real market needs, improve labour data tracking, and foster entrepreneurship for long-term livelihood support.
Agara noted that achieving these objectives requires continuous backing from the Federal Government, private firms, and development partners. The International Labour Organization also expressed support at the event, stressing the value of modern public employment systems to help job seekers secure sustainable work in evolving industries.
