The Plateau State Police Command has cautioned its officers to stay away from partisan politics ahead of the 2027 general elections. The state Commissioner of Police, Ayodeji Faniyan, gave this charge in Jos during a monthly strategic meeting with senior officers, according to Punch.
Faniyan urged personnel to maintain neutrality, respect human rights, and adhere strictly to directives from the Inspector-General of Police. He warned that acts of indiscipline, such as extortion, brutality, and misuse of power, would attract severe consequences, stressing the need for professional conduct across all divisions.
Speaking through the command’s spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, the police chief assured Plateau residents of adequate security for legitimate political events. He instructed area commanders and divisional officers to work closely with other security agencies to ensure peace and maintain public confidence in the force.
