The Independent National Electoral Commission has confirmed that Artificial Intelligence will be used in the 2027 general elections. Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan stressed, however, that algorithms will not decide the outcome of the polls.
The clarification comes amid controversies over candidate omissions and accusations from the Nigeria Democratic Congress that INEC plans to use AI to favour the APC. INEC has given parties until October 24 to challenge list issues and is rolling out QR codes to ease PVC collection.
The commission says it is implementing a Supreme Court judgment requiring membership registers before primaries.
