Head of Service Commends Outgoing UI Vice-Chancellor Adebowale

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Olumuyiwa Enitan, has praised the outgoing 13th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof Kayode Adebowale, for maintaining the institution's heritage and guiding it through modern demands, according to a report by Punch.

Enitan made the remarks while presiding as chairman of a valedictory gathering organized at Trenchard Hall on the university campus. The event, held under the theme "Celebrating Leadership, Legacy and Service," was attended by community leaders, religious bodies, security personnel, and labor representatives.

Speaking on national governance, the civil service head stated that Adebowale's administrative style supported the Renewed Hope Agenda championed by President Bola Tinubu. Enitan highlighted ongoing overhauls aimed at making the civil service more productive, transparent, and responsive to the public, noting that the university sector stands to gain from these changes.

During his farewell address, Adebowale pointed out that institutions must prioritize their personnel to succeed, adding that he was leaving behind a resilient establishment. He acknowledged persistent challenges, particularly regarding infrastructure and financial support, while noting that his administration championed due process, academic autonomy, and research partnerships that benefit national development.

Adebowale was originally announced as the premier university's 13th vice-chancellor in October 2021 before formally assuming office in November of that year. His departure paves the way for Prof Peter Olapegba to step in as the 14th head of the institution.
