Nigeria has confirmed its first Ebola case in over a decade after a woman who arrived in Abuja from Uganda tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain.
The patient fell ill days after arrival, sought care for malaria-like symptoms, and was only tested on 19 October. Authorities have identified 44 contacts (mostly health workers) and placed people on a 21-day no-fly list. The Presidential Task Force has assured the public the situation is under control.
Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate said the patient is isolated and receiving care. Contact tracing continues amid concerns about delayed detection. The case is linked to a diplomat, and the patient later developed multi-organ failure.
