Kimi Antonelli Makes History as Youngest F1 World Champion

Italian racer Kimi Antonelli has sealed the Formula One drivers' title, making history as the youngest world champion in the sport, according to Vanguard. The Mercedes driver achieved the milestone following his performance at the Mexico City Grand Prix on November 1, 2026.

While Max Verstappen crossed the line first to win the race at the Hermanos Rodriguez racetrack, all eyes were on Antonelli. The young driver managed a third-place finish, which was enough to secure the championship crown.

At 20 years and 68 days old, Antonelli shattered the previous age record for an F1 champion. Vanguard noted that the Mercedes driver took the title more than three years earlier in his life than Sebastian Vettel did when setting the previous mark in 2010.

The triumph also ends a decades-long drought for his home country. Antonelli is the first Italian driver to win the Formula One world championship since Alberto Ascari claimed the title in 1953.
