Renowned Nigerian dancer and choreographer, Dr Kafayat Shafau, popularly called Kaffy, has opened up about her transition from sports into professional dancing. Speaking in an interview with Punch, she revealed that her journey began during fitness sessions at the National Stadium in Lagos before expanding into choreography.
The fitness coach explained that she launched the first female basketball team while studying at Ogun State University. According to Punch, her dance performances during sporting event breaks helped her gain public attention, leading to feature roles in major music videos alongside top Nigerian music artists.
Kaffy noted that dance was heavily undervalued when she started, with many viewing dancers negatively. However, she told the publication that her family and the broader society only began to respect her career choice after she broke a Guinness World Record, proving the value of creative arts.
