FIFA head Gianni Infantino claims most member associations support his bid to remain leader of world football's governing body. The 56-year-old expressed confidence in his position while speaking to the BBC, following fresh backing from regional bodies ahead of the upcoming election.
His campaign received a major push after the Asian Football Confederation officially endorsed him in Tokyo. Infantino also stated that African nations pledged their support during his visit to Cape Verde. Currently, no rival candidate has declared for the presidency before the November 18 deadline.
The FIFA chief previously faced severe backlash over a dropped proposal to sell competition commercial rights to private entities. Leaders from UEFA, CONCACAF, and the AFC had criticized the project in a joint letter. Infantino has since apologized, emphasizing respect for democratic processes across all member nations.
