The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that Artificial Intelligence will be used in the conduct of the 2027 general elections. However, Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan stressed that algorithms will not decide the outcome of the polls.
The clarification comes amid ongoing controversies over the omission of some candidates from the final list, including figures such as Isa Pantami, Ladi Adebutu and Aminu Gwarzo. INEC says it implemented a Supreme Court judgment requiring parties to submit membership registers before primaries, and has given affected parties until October 24 to challenge omissions.
The commission is also introducing QR codes to simplify PVC collection in Lagos and other preparations for the election cycle.
