Police Reopen Mohbad Probe: IGP Approves Fresh Investigation Into Singer's Death

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has approved a fresh investigation into the death of singer Mohbad (Ilerioluwa Aloba), according to a statement from the family's lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe, dated September 29, 2026.
The family petitioned the police on April 14, raising what they called inconsistencies in the earlier investigation and asking for a comprehensive forensic reconstruction. The petition reached Force Headquarters in Abuja on May 7. The IGP has forwarded it to the Lagos State Police Command, which assigned it to the Special Enquiry Bureau.
The lawyer also addressed a separate suit that the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed on September 25. He said the Aloba family neither filed nor authorised it, and that the dismissal "did not terminate the police investigation."
The family has urged investigators to act with "diligence, independence and professionalism."
