The Independent National Electoral Commission has rejected a petition from Ladi Adebutu, the PDP governorship flagbearer in Ogun State. According to Daily Post, the decision was reached on Thursday after the electoral umpire reviewed several complaints regarding omitted candidates for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Out of 69 petitions received by the commission concerning excluded governorship and assembly aspirants, about 36 succeeded. Former communications minister Isa Ali Pantami gained full clearance, while Kano State Nigeria Democratic Congress flagbearer Abdulsalam Gwarzo received conditional approval pending the final resolution of ongoing court matters.
Daily Post reported that the rejections follow the enforcement of Section 77 of the 2026 Electoral Act requiring party membership registers, which the Supreme Court upheld in September 2026. Adebutu insisted he fulfilled all membership conditions, but officials confirmed his name will not be restored to the published list.
