West Africa's big names took heavy hits in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers. Guinea-Bissau beat Nigeria 3-0, with goals from Franculino Dju, Mama Balde (66') and Alvaro Djalo. Nigeria had started seven Premier League players.
Ghana were stunned 4-2 at home by The Gambia after leading 2-0 through Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan. The Gambia replied through a Muhammed Badamosi penalty, Omar Colley and two goals from substitute Ebrima Colley. Ghana fans threw bottles onto the pitch late in the game.
The fallout was immediate: Carlos Queiroz left his role as Black Stars head coach by mutual agreement after the defeat, ending a second spell that lasted only two matches.
